This study aims to analyze the initial reading and writing skills of grade II students of SDN Pendem 01 as a basis for understanding the level of early literacy mastery in elementary school. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that students' initial reading and writing skills still vary. Most students have been able to read and write simple words and sentences, but there are still obstacles in terms of pronunciation of letters, understanding of reading content, neatness, and readability of writing. Factors that affect these abilities include lack of practice, motivation to learn, and the support of the surrounding environment. Improvement efforts are carried out through creative learning and the use of interesting learning media to foster students' interest and basic literacy skills. Thus, the results of this study confirm the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents in stimulating the ability to read and write in a sustainable manner.
